Artists Description: The historic Point Loma Lighthouse first went into operation on November 15, 1855 and ceased operation in March of 1891. It stood vigil at the southern tip of the Point Loma peninsula in San Diego, California. A new lighthouse now protects sailors but the historic original lighthouse has been restored to its original splendor and is now the show piece of the Cabrillo National Monument. The lighthouse displays many moods as weather conditions change. The lighthouse is a popular destination for visitors to San Diego.
