Description: The “Star of India” is featured in this triptych. It is the oldest seafaring ship in the world. Located in San Diego, it serves as a maritime museum. In 1976, after being restored, (headed up by Senator Jim Mills, currently of Coronado) she was put to sail for the first time in 50 years, and continues to sail on special occasions. The ship was built in 1863 on the Isle of Man in the British Isles as an experimental design utilizing iron. The Star of India has served as a cargo vessel to India, a passenger ship for emigrants to New Zealand, and a salmon fishing and packing facility.
