SW Gillen
Scott W. Gillen was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1971. Throughout his childhood, Scott dabbled in art, sketching his surroundings to occupy his free time. But, like most Bostonian kids, Scott’s main focus during his youth was playing and watching baseball. Many years passed before Scott realized his artistic skills were worthy of relaying onto canvas.
While attending UMass-Boston in his early twenties, Scott began to study art in a more formal way, taking courses on drawing technique, print making, and art history. Even still, the art of painting eluded him.
In 1995, Scott moved to San Diego, suspending his art education and leaving a huge void in his heart. Three years later, Scott returned to his passion for art when he took an acrylic painting class with instructor Jimmy Lane Lunde at the “Salon of Art” in La Jolla. Scott discovered his true passion when Concetta Atelier, the owner of “Salon of Art,” introduced Scott to oil painting. Since 2006, Scott has studied privately with Bobbi Harrington, who has been a huge influence on his paintings.
With his interest in portraits, art nouveau, and Japanese-themed art, Scott combines multiple styles with his own to put his “art in motion.”
